DOG TRAINING RECOMMENDATIONS
Patricia McConnell, Ph.D., is a brilliant dog behaviorist and is known world-wide. She is from the Blue Mounds area, and received her doctorate from UW-Madison, and is also an adjunct professor in the Zoology department. Her books teach more than training, they teach the background of why behaviors happen, and it helps you to understand how to deal with a full range of dog behavior issues because you learn to think as a dog. Good luck with your training, and we recommend using any one of these books for your positive dog training with your new adoptive doggie!
- The Puppy Primer: good for puppies and new dogs in the home
- Family Friendly Dog Training: also good for puppies and new dogs in the home
- Feisty Fido: tool for leash aggression
- I’ll Be Home Soon: tool for separation anxiety
- Way to Go!: tool for potty training
- The Cautious Canine: tool for fear in dogs
- Feeling Outnumbered: tool for multiple dog homes
- How To Be The Leader of your Pack: tool for becoming a pack leader
- The other end of the leash: eye-opening book on dog behavior and thought process

You can find many of these books sold at any Mounds Pet food Warehouse locations.
There are many other books, DVDs, and seminars available at http://www.patriciamcconnell.com
Additionally, we recommend “A Dog’s Best Friend” training in Madison, Wisconsin for any behavioral issues you need to address. Dr. McConnell started the training company years ago, and it revolutionized many of our problem dogs: http://www.dogsbestfriendtraining.com/
Good luck with your rescue dog!
DOG FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS
Providing high-quality pet food over your dog’s lifetime can significantly improve her quality of life, coat, eyes, oral health, digestive system and temperament. It can increase the number of years, and help deter from costly procedures at the end of life.
Remember Me Ranch does not require any of the foods listed, but we only want to inform and urge you to do your research before starting a food program. You can also make your own dog food, biscuits and kibble yourself. We just urge you to consult your veterinarian before you proceed.
Most of your high-quality food is not available at normal grocery stores; you must buy it specialty pet supply stores, like Mounds. We encourage you to talk with a mounds employee and ask their recommendations, comparisons and make sure to tell them your budget
At the Ranch, we like:
- Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul
- Wellness Puppy and Dog
- Merrick Wet Food
- Fido-Vite vitamin supplement
- Fish Oil Pills (bought at walgreens, etc)
- Pet Tabs chewable vitamins
- Bully Sticks for chew toys
We also recommend using a calculator to feed your meals:

It’s best to feed your dog twice a day, and not to let them free feed. Please portion out their meals through the dog food calculator, because being overweight will severely impact their health.
